Every human being is composed of three elements; the body, soul and spirit. The body is physical and interacts with the physical world.
The soul isn’t physical; it contains a person’s thoughts, intellect and emotions. The spirit is the innermost part of a person that connects to God. The soul and spirit dwell in the body and they can be hindered by the body.
Your soul serves your spirit and body even though the desires of the spirit and body are different. The body and spirit are both powerful and whichever of the two wins drives the soul.
Your soul is the gateway to your spirit. When we got saved, we were added to the spiritual life.
Romans 12:1-2, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Prayer and fasting is a sacrifice in which we surrender our bodies to God.
Whatever we think about and meditate upon must be pleasing to God. Most of us focus more on pleasing those in the flesh instead of God.
The mind sits in the soul. Thinking is of the soul and meditation is of the spirit.
The power of the word of God is activated in our spirits when we meditate upon it.
Whatever your spirit meditates upon whether good or bad is what has power over your life.
Psalm 119:25-28, My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word. I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes. Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.
When a person dies, the soul doesn’t die; it is the body that dies.
People love the things of the body more than those of the spirit and are easily enticed by them yet the spiritual things are much more important for example gossiping instead of praying.
When the soul serves the body, the spirit becomes malnourished. It is only the word of God that can revive the soul to serve the spirit.
The soul can become wounded and sick just as the body.
3 John 1:1-2, The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth: Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers
1 Thessalonians 5:23, Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
What the devil does is defile your soul so you can be blameful and he uses the entries on the body to do so.
How the devil defiles a person’s soul
- Through food dedicated to demons.
- Through one’s eyes (what you see) & your ears (what you listen to), these are all directly transferred to your soul.
- He then plants evil thoughts within you which defile your soul and put it under the service of the body’s evil desires. For example, a person who watches pornography opens up room for pornographic thoughts in their soul which attracts the spirit of sexual immorality to dwell in their soul and act in their body.
The Holy Spirit to connect with your spirit goes through your soul; once your soul is defiled He cannot come in for He is holy.
A person who reads/listens to the word of God feeds their soul with Godly things which leads it to serve their spirit in the way of the Lord.
Mathew 5:27-28, You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
When the devil wants to hinder your prayers from being effective, he messes with your soul. When you pray in anger, hatred or any other evil thought, it is the devil that hears you not God.
If you don’t keep your soul in the presence of God and you surrender it to the evil one, you will not see God in your life.
Give your soul a chance to rest and rejoice in Jesus; this will preserve it. (Psalm 103:1-2)
