Righteousness is the quality or a state of being morally correct and justifiable. In the Christian context, it’s acting in accord with divine or Godly requirements.
While Spiritual Warfare is the Christian concept of fighting against the work of preternatural evil forces (Evil spirits as Ephesians 6:12 denotes).
Therefore, for any Christian to overcome any spiritual battle, she/he needs to be equipped with weapons of spiritual warfare such as; prayer, the word of God and righteousness.
Of the three, righteousness is a very significant weapon. As Isaiah54:14 emphasizes that we need to first be established in righteousness, before engaging in any spiritual battle.
“You will be firmly established in righteousness: You will be far from [even the thought of] oppression, for you will not fear, And from terror, for it will not come near you. Isaiah 54:14 (Amplified Bible)
One must also note that for the word of God and Prayer to become effective spiritual warfare weapons, righteousness is the foundation on which the two must thrive on.
Why? Because being established in righteousness brings Christian closer to God and the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto the prayers of a righteous man.
Therefore walking in righteousness makes one’s prayers effective and is able to overcome all the snares of the devil.
How do Christians attain, righteousness as one of their Spiritual warfare weapons? This is by repentance and forgiveness.
The two practices (repentance and forgiveness) open doors of both righteousness and God’s grace in our lives.
However, we should always be aware that Holy Spirit helps to convict us of our sin purposely to drive us into repentance so that we become right with God.
NB: Every spiritual battle requires preparation therefore it’s always very prudent for one to avoid getting into spiritual warfare before repenting and praying because the dual walk hand in hand with righteous.
Meanwhile, the book of Ephesians 6:10-16 also details to us some very important elements that must be found in each weapon that we need for spiritual warfare. Such elements include; –
Truth. Walking in truth is a valuable Godly principle. John 8:32 tells us that the truth sets us free. (Ephesian6:14)
Faith. Having faith is the assurance that God is with us amidst every battle once we choose to walk in righteousness and holiness. (Ephesian6:16)
Brethren, let us know that we are God’s instruments of spiritual warfare, be established in righteousness and put on all spiritual warfare weapons so that we overcome all spiritual battles.
